A wild variety, this unique arugula has purple/red veins dramatically etched onto shapely green leaves. Plants are vigorous and has uniform growth. Flavour is zesty and spicy--add some fire to a salad or sandwich by tossing in a few leaves. If it wasn't so delicious, it'd be almost too beautiful to eat.

How to grow:
Direct sow every 3 weeks, from early spring through late summer, for a continuous harvest. Optimal soil temperature for germination is 4-12 degrees C (40-50F). Direct sow the seeds shallowly, just under 5mm (1/4") deep. You can also start indoors 2-4 weeks before the last frost and transplant out in late spring. Sow the tiny seeds barely covered with soil. Keep them warm and damp. Germination is slow, so be patient.
Thin to at least 2cm (1") apart, as crowded plants will bolt earlier than those with some growing space. Space 10-15cm (4-6") apart in the row to allow plants to mature fully. Space rows 45-60cm (18-24") apart for easier weeding and harvest. In hot weather, arugula tends to become tough and quite spicy before going to seed. Try growing it in partial shade to delay the bolting, or stick to cool season growing. With some frost protection, arugula will grow all winter long.
