Desert
Incredible speed and uniformity combine with amazing disease resistance. The fruits produced by Desert Organic zucchini seeds are smooth and dark-skinned with light speckles, and they have no trouble setting in hot weather. Choose Desert for long season production and for harvests right into the cooler weather of autumn. Plant two staggered crops for the longest harvest period. Start the first batch indoors in May and transplant out after six weeks. Start the second batch in late June, and transplant for late July/early August. This will keep the fruits coming even if the fist crop succumbs to late summer mildew.

Goldy
Uniformly cylindrical along its whole length, and intensely yellow in colour. Goldy’s fruits average 20-25cm (8-10″) long. Plant Goldy Organic zucchini seeds for relatively small plants that are open and vigorous with hardly any spines. The fruits are tender and delicious. Avoid aborted fruits by planting long blooming flowers around your squash bed. Fruits sometimes abort due to poor or incomplete pollination, resulting in fruits that turn black and shrivel from the blossom end. In a field setting, sunflowers work really well, attracting pollinators to the area like beacons. In the home garden or raised bed, try planting Alyssum, Phacelia, and other long-blooming flowers around the edge of the bed. Fruit set will be vastly improved.

How to grow
Timing: Transplant or direct sow when soil warms in late spring. Start transplants 3-4 weeks earlier. Optimal soil temperature for germination: 25-35 degrees C (68-95F)
Seeding: Sow 2cm (1") deep. If it rains or cools off, you may need to sow again.
Growing: Grow zucchini in full sun, and provide ample moisture through the growing season. Grow in fertile, humus-rich soil, and apply one cup of balanced organic fertlizer, mixed well into the soil beneath each transplant. Space plants 45-60cm (18-24") apart, in rows set 90-120cm (36-48") apart. The ideal pH range for zucchini is 6.0 to 6.8. Avoid overhead watering to prevent plant diseases. Remove any fruit that does not set properly. Flowers planted nearby will improve pollination and fruit set.
