Connecticut Field pumpkins are a sweet heritage variety that have a deep orange skin and thick, fine-gained, deep yellow flesh. They regularly produce 11kg (28lb) pumpkins up to 50cm (20") in diameter that have a flat globular shape with little ribbing. They are great for pies.
Takes 120 days to harvest.
Jack O'lantern pumpkins have a smooth firm skin and bright orange. They are ideal for carving a Halloween jack-o'-lantern.
Takes 75 days to harvest.
Small Sigar or Pie pumpkins have a bright orange flesh of the heritage variety that is finely grained, meaty and perfect for pumpkin pies. They produce a large crop of sweet round fruits 20-25cm (8-10") in diameter that store well.

Sowing: Sow seeds outdoors in late May and June. Can be started indoors in paper or fibre pots 3 weeks ealier. Before planting, dig in well-rotted manure or organic matter. Prevent rot by protecting mature pumpkins from frost or freezing temperatures. sow seeds 2.5cm (1") deep in hills 2.4m (8') spaced apart. Sow 6 seeds per hill.
