Nodding Wild Onion Seed Pack

Nodding Wild Onion (Allium cernuum) is a distinctive and edible addition to any garden. As a native species within the Allium family, which encompasses onions and garlic, its stems can be utilized similarly to chives, while its bulbs are also consumable. At the end of summer, it produces clusters of star-shaped flowers in white and purple, which are pollinated by local sweat bees. It is important to note that during their first year, these plants may resemble grass. Flowering and an increase in stem thickness occur in their second year. Additionally, the plants can be propagated by separating the bulb-lets that form alongside the main bulb.

Growing Instructions 

Wet and cold stratification required. Mix seeds with moist substrate (vermiculite, perlite or moss) and place in a plastic bag and refrigerate for 6-8 weeks. Sow seed at 1/8 inch depth. Do not let seedling dry out while it is establishing.

Sow directly outdoors in late fall to overwinter.
