New England Aster - Symphyotrichum novae-angliae Seed Pack

New England Aster (Symphyotrichum novae-angliae) plays a crucial role as a pioneer species in natural succession environments and thrives under diverse conditions. This often underappreciated native plant serves as a vital nectar source for pollinators from late summer through to the onset of frost. Its roots can be divided on an annual basis, and the flowers exhibit a spectrum of colors, including white, pink, and blue-purple. Additionally, New England Aster serves as a host plant for the Pearl Crescent and various checkerspot butterfly species.

Growing Instructions 

Cold, moist stratification required. Mix seeds with moist substrate (vermiculite, perlite or moss) and place in a plastic bag and refrigerate for 6-8 weeks. Sow seed at soil surface. Do not let seedling dry out while it is establishing.

OR

Sow directly outdoors in late fall to overwinter.
