Little Bluestem - Schizachyrium scoparium Seed Pack

Little Bluestem (Schizachyrium scoparium) is a significant native grass species found in prairie habitats, widely utilized in both restoration projects and ornamental landscaping. During the summer, Little Bluestem develops blue-green clumps, which transform into striking hues of red and copper in the fall, colors that persist throughout the winter months. This grass is highly beneficial for wildlife; its seeds are a food source for various songbirds, and it serves as a host plant for several butterfly species, including the Dusted Skipper, Cobweb Skipper, Ottoe Skipper, Indian Skipper, Swarthy Skipper, and Crossline Skipper. For the establishment of larger populations of Little Bluestem, it is recommended to sow at a rate of 3.5-4 KG per acre or 1 KG per 11,000 square feet.

Growing Instructions 

No pre-treatment required. Sow seed at 1/4 inch depth. Do not let seedling dry out while it is establishing.
