CERTIFIED ORGANIC!

Easy Leaf Blend

Grow sweet and crunchy baby leaf salad greens or full-sized heads — just space to suit the purpose. This blend can be harvested at the baby leaf stage, mid-head, or full-head size without losing any of its characteristics. This blend of two green and two red Eazyleaf lettuces grows a diversity of shapes and textures for an interesting and tasty salad.

The Eazyleaf® series of lettuces are bred to yield a high count of leaves of uniform shape and size ready for salads, with one cut. Plant at 15-20cm (6-8") spacing to harvest the full head just above the root and make your final cut for salad leaves just before using. Or plant heads at 10-15cm (4-6") spacing and cut in the field just above the growing tip for a harvest of loose leaves ready to eat as a salad. Leaves will grow back for multiple harvests.

CERTIFIED ORGANIC!

Pomegranate Crunch

Pomegranate Crunch Pelleted Organic romaine lettuce seeds are CERTIFIED ORGANIC! This petite lettuce is like a cross between a romaine and a butterhead, with small, dense heads with cherry red leaves and light green hearts with a splash of red. The leaf ribs are very clean and uniform. The colour transition from the outer leaves to the heart is very smooth, creating a beautiful contrast. The heads of this variety have very uniform size and shape. Seeds are pelleted and sold by seed count. Be sure to keep the seed bed constantly moist until germination. Pelleted seeds require constant moisture.

  • Exposure: Full sun to partial Shade
  • Matures in 45 days
  • Pelleted seeds
  • Uniform size and shape
  • Small, dense heads with red leaves
  • Open pollinated seeds

Red Iceberg

Red Iceberg lettuce forms a rosette of tasty, nutritious, and richly red outer leaves as it grows. Eventually a tightly-packed, pale green iceberg head forms at its centre, gilded with red markings on the outside. The interior is sweet and mild, with a very pleasant, crisp texture. The head holds well against the heat of summer with a delayed seed set. This was a standout in our seed trials and drew a lot of attention.

  • Exposure: Full-sun to partial shade
  • Matures in 50 days
  • Dense green heads
  • Bright red wrapper leaves
  • Iceberg type

Please note: This pelleting is not COR-compliant for certified organic growers.

Summer Picnic

Grow a bowl of summer sunshine with this pelleted mix of red and green lettuces. Planting is a simple matter of poking two to three pellets into the soil in a 15cm (6") or larger container. Keep it moist and it will grow into a mound of salad greens up to 30cm (12") tall and wide. This mix is the most heat-tolerant of our mesclun mixes.

Each pellet contains four to five seeds of different varieties. So planting one pellet results in a tight-growing clump of mixed greens. Try to avoid over crowding your containers by sowing the pellets 10cm (4") apart or more.

  • Exposure:  Full sun to partial shade
  • Matures in 55 days
  • Pelleted for easy handling
  • A mix of red and green leaves
  • Harvest at baby leaf stage
  • Open pollinated seeds

How to grow

Easy Leaf Blend, Pomegranate Crunch and Red Iceberg:

Timing: Lettuce is fast growing and prefers cool conditions. Start seeds indoors in trays and trasnplant 3 - 4 weeks later. Or directsow wver 2-3 weeks starting in mid-spring. Optimal soil temperature for germination: 10-22 degrees C (50-72F).

Seeding: Sow seeds 5mm (1/4) deep. Keep seed bed evenly moist until germination.

Growing: If growing for baby leaf, space plants 2-12cm (1-5") apart. For full head leaf, space 30cm (12") apart. Water regularly to prevent bitterness. Soil with lots of organic matter that drains freely is best. A pH of 6.0-6.5 is ideal, so add compost and lime before planting. One cup of balanced organic fertlizer per 3m (10') will provide adequate nutrition.

Summer Picnic:

Timing: Grow in full sun from early fall to late spring, and in partial shade in summer.

Seeding: Each pellet contains several seeds, so space them with room to grow. Sow pellets 1cm (1/2") deep, and 5cm (2") apart. Multi-seed pellets work well in containers, but avoid overcrowding. If the diameter of your container is 15cm (6"), don't plant more then 3 pellets.

Growing: Grow in any sterile potting soil, or straight in the ground or raised beds. Half a cup of complete organic fertlizer will feed 10 feet of row. Harvest baby greens with scissors, and they will grow back at least once per season. Stagger plantings for a longer constant harvest.

Usual seed life: 3 years
