Hoary Vervain - Verbena stricta Seed Pack

Hoary Vervain (Verbena stricta) is an attractive native plant found in prairies, characterized by its more compact growth compared to the more widely recognized Blue Vervain (Verbena hastata). This species serves as a host plant for the Common Buckeye butterfly, and its seeds provide a vital food source for various small mammals and birds. Although it readily self-seeds, hoary vervain struggles to compete with more aggressive wildflower species and taller native grasses. It is important to note that the seeds are quite small.

Growing Instructions 

Wet and cold stratification required. Mix seeds with moist substrate (vermiculite, perlite or moss) and place in a plastic bag and refrigerate for 6-8 weeks. Sow seed at soil surface. Do not let seedling dry out while it is establishing.

OR

Sow directly outdoors in late fall to overwinter.
