Armenian is an oriental heirloon that is technically a melon but produces fruit that looks and tastes like a cucumber. Th extra-long fruit can grow to 60cm (24") or more in length but are best eaten arounf 30-45 cm (12-18") in length. These fruit are light green, thin, heavily ribbed and often curled. It is a top notch slicer.

 

Takes 65 days to harvest.

 

English Telegraph have a uniform shape, a nice dark green skin, and a very mild taste. This straight, slim 35 cm long cucumber slices very well. 

 

Marketmore cucumbers are resistant to downy and powdery mildew, scab and mosaic. This popular variety grows dark green fruit 20-22cm (8-9") long. These are super for slicing.  

 

Takes 67 days to harvest.

 

Straight Eight Cucumbers are of the heritage variety, They are probably the best known slicing variety. High yeilds of 20cm (8") long, smooth skinned, dark green fruits. They are great for slicing and relishes.

Sowing: Armenian - Sow 6 seeds per hill in a sunny spot when the soil temperature raches 18-20 degrees C (65-70F) or warmer and all danger of frost has passed. Well-rotted manure or compost dug into the soil prior to planting is beneficial. Keep soil evenly moist. Sow seeds 2cm (3/4") deep and 5cm (2") apart.

EnglishTelegraph - Start seeds indoors in fibre pots 4-6 weeks early. Do not plant out before early June to avoid cool nights and blossom drop. Sow directly outdoors after soil has warmed to minimum 18 degrees Celcius. Windy-sheltered site with rich, warm sandy loam perferred. Grow on a trellis or other support to ensure straight cucumbers. Sow seeds 2cm deep and 65cm apart. 

Straight Eight - Sow in hills 150cm (60") apart, 6 seeds per hill after danger of frost is past. Well-rotted manure or compost dug into the soil is beneficial.  Keep soil evenly moist. Sow seeds 2cm (3/4") deep and 5cm (2") apart.
