Early Jersey Wakefield
Early Jersey Wakefield cabbage is a SUMMER HARVEST. A much loved HEIRLOOM cabbage with solidly tight, conical, folded heads 13-18cm (5-7") in diameter, and 26-39cm (10-15") tall. Planted individually, Early Jersey Wakefield cabbage seeds will form a plant up to 1m (3') in diameter, but they can be planted close together, and will form a canopy over the soil. This cabbage has smooth, thick green leaves that are perfect for coleslaw. They can be harvested in summer or overwintered, and they resist splitting in wet weather. Early Jersey Wakefield cabbage seeds were in listed in W.H. Steves' No 39 Seed Catalogue published in Steveston, B.C. in 1890. They were first grown in the U.S. by Francis Brill of Jersey City in 1840.

Kalobos
FALL HARVEST. Kalibos Cabbage seeds produce a spectacular, fresh-tasting, pointed cabbage with intense reddish-purple leaves and high sugar content. The summer and fall harvest plants are large, with big wrapper leaves that are held well off the ground. The interior is dense with a small, tender core. Start Kalibos cabbage seeds indoors and transplant them outside under some lightweight row cover. This will completely and organically prevent damage from caterpillars of the Small White butterfly that is commonly known as the cabbage moth. Kalibos performed exceedingly well in our cabbage trials. The flavour was superb and it is clubroot resistant.

How to grow
Timing: For summer cabbagem start indoors or outdoors from early spring to early summer. Harvest in 2-3 months. For fall cabbage, start indoors or outdoors, late spring to early summer. Harvest in 2-3 months.
Seeding: Sow seeds 5mm (1/4") deep in sterile starting mix. Transplant 45-60cm (18-24") apart in rows 60-90cm (24-36") apart.
Growing: Cabbage plants perfer well-drained, fertile soil with a lot of organic matter, and a pH 6.5 to 7.0. Dig 1/4 cup of balanced organic fertlizer beneath each transplant. Top dress with more if growth seems sluggish. Use lightweight row cover to prevent damage from insects.
